Agenda
이번 2024 정림학생건축상의 설계과제는 현존하는 부지/건축물/장소/기반시설 등 인간이 만든 구조물을 선택하여, ‘모두’로 확장된 사용자의 관점에서 현재의 계획대상지를 성찰, 전향적으로 재검토하고 참가자가 정한 시간의 스케일로 리-이노베이션의 미래 시나리오를 작성함으로써 ‘모두’ 를 위한 새로운 거주 방식을 제안하는 것이 과제다.
The 2024 Junglim Student Award challenges participants to suggest a dwelling for everyone; literally every living organism in the planet Earth. Participants are tasked with reflecting on the current use of a selected site from the perspective of its users and envisioning a future scenario of re-innovation. This project should illustrate a transformative vision of living that accommodates everyone, over a timeline defined by the participants.
이에 ‘아름다운 사람이 머문자리’ 팀은 대한민국의 문제로 기록적인 저출산과 수도권 인구집중이 지방소멸이 예견되는 상황에서 공존의 희망을 발견했다.
최근 대한민국의 문제점으로 기록적인 저출산과 수도권 인구집중현상으로 인한 지방소멸이 대두되고 있다. 중앙정부를 비롯해 각 지자체에서 지역 인구 감소에 대응하기 위해 해결책을 고심하고 있다. 이는 인구가 줄어 더이상 사람이 살지 않게 되는 상황을 위협으로 인식하고 있다는 것이다. 과거 이 땅에 살던 비인간 주민들에게 인구 증가는 위험신호였을 것이다. 이제 인간이 인구소멸 위험지역이라 부르는 곳은 인구소멸로 인한 쾌재를 부르는 지역이지 않을까? 인간들이 이러한 지역을 붙잡기 위해 애쓰는 대신 자연으로 돌려주면 어떨까?
Project “From Ruins to Roots to Dwelling for All, ” addresses the pressing issue of the declining birth rate and the resultant population concentration in Seoul, which has led to abandoned villages across the countryside. This demographic shift, recognized as a crisis by both local and central governments, raises fundamental questions about the fate of these depopulated areas. Could these zones, once viewed as endangered by human standards, become sanctuaries of regeneration and joy through depopulation?
Concept
In the proposal, we present a manifesto for returning the land to nature, based on four guiding principles:
- Recognize Soil as an integral part of a complex and diverse ecosystem.
- Treat plants as communal dwellings essential for sustaining life.
- Eliminate hazardous elements from the ecosystem.
- Focus on utilizing resources sustainably, rather than depleting them.
Site
Jungri Village, situated in the mid to lower reaches of the Nakdonggang River, serves as our focal point. It faces imminent abandonment, prompting us to rethink how this borrowed natural land can be respectfully returned. We suggest ecological restoration for houses, roads, ditches, wetlands, and farmlands to redress the irreversible impacts caused by human habitation.
Design
This project poses a critical inquiry: Can we regard our habitat as truly beautiful if it’s at the expense of ecological integrity? Common belief holds that nature will rebound once human constructions are removed, but the reality is that ecosystems, shaped over millennia, do not simply regenerate. They require conscious human intervention to heal. Our project seeks to facilitate this healing process, fostering a sustainable coexistence with other species and the Earth itself. “From Ruins to Roots to Dwelling for All”
